Cancer is a leading cause of death around the world, according to WHO which estimates that 84 million people will die of cancer between 2005 and 2015 without intervention and accounting for 8.8 million deaths in 2015. The most common causes of cancer death are cancers of:
  • Lung (1.69 million deaths)
  • Liver (788 000 deaths)
  • Colorectal (774 000 deaths)
  • Stomach (754 000 deaths)
  • Breast (571 000 deaths)
In 2016, there will be an estimated 1,685,210 new cancer cases diagnosed and 595,690 cancer deaths in the US.
In 2017, nearly 13% of all cancers diagnosed in adults ages 20 and older will be rare cancers, defined in this report as a cancer with fewer than 6 cases per 100,000 people per year.
Approximately 1.2 percent of men and women will be diagnosed with thyroid cancer at some point during their lifetime, based on 2011-2013 data.
Around one third of deaths from cancer are due to the 5 leading behavioral and dietary risks: high body mass index, low fruit and vegetable intake, lack of physical activity, tobacco use, and alcohol use.
Cancer causing infections, such as hepatitis and human papilloma virus (HPV), are responsible for up to 25% of cancer cases in low- and middle-income countries
The idea behind the "3rd Global Oncology and Cancer Summit - 2019" is to integrate the knowledge of cancer researchers with the knowledge of clinicians and oncologists to understand, brainstorm, and comprehend the disease
